ETP Maintains Strong Commitment to California Small Business Owners
Small business is the cornerstone of California's economy. As such, ETP continues to prioritize training needs of small business owners, recognizing that this important sector generates jobs, provides economic opportunity and flexibility, and boosts economic output.
Small business is the State's largest employer. Reports indicate that California has over 1 million small businesses, employing over 7.8 million people. The small business community comprises 98 percent of all businesses in the state; thus, when they produce more goods and services and hire more workers, the economy grows.
During the last year, ETP has awarded 203 job training contracts in the amount of $9.7 million to train almost 6,400 workers of small businesses consisting of 100 or fewer employees. ETP serves small employers in several ways – through direct contracts with small business owners, and through multiple employer contracts with employer groups, joint apprenticeship training councils, trade associations and training agencies. ETP also has a stream lined process for small business owners with 100 or fewer employees needing less than $75,000 in job training funds. This "fast track" process expedites application development, and allows a range of 8-60 training hours at a higher rate of reimbursement per trainee.
As a testament to ETP's ongoing commitment to small business, in addition to numerous contracts in the quarter to half-million dollar range, the Panel, at its November meeting, awarded the contracts specifically targeting training projects under $20,000 as follows:
