ETP Participates in 2008 BIO International Convention
In collaboration with the Governor's Office, the State's Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), the Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency (BT&H), the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, and Team California, ETP was part of an effort to demonstrate the State's support of the biotechnology industry at 2008 Biotechnology Industry Organization Conference held in San Diego June 17-20, 2008.
During his keynote address, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger highlighted the successes of the state's biotech industry and the economic benefits California enjoys as home to some of the most innovative companies in the world. With representation of over 50 countries, and more than 22,000 participants, this year's Bio International Convention was the largest biotechnology event in the world.
California remains a global leader in biotechnology. The biotechnology industry develops products that can provide treatments for diseases, supply alternative fuel sources, and protect the environment. An estimated 100,000 workers are employed by California's biotechnology firms with a projected job growth of another 150,000 workers by 2015.
"As home to many of the nation's finest research institutions and universities, along with a highly educated workforce, California plays a preeminent role in the biotechnology industry," said Brian McMahon, ETP's Executive Director. "ETP is pleased to support this sector through its funding of customized workforce training projects designed to keep biotech companies competitive in a global marketplace."
