ETP-Funded Training Program Yields Immediate Results

After a mere 14 hours of training, a small manufacturer witnessed not only the beginning of the transformation of his production processes to lean, but a transformation of his workforce as well.

Label Impressions, Inc. a well established label manufacturing company in Orange, specializing in eco-friendly labels, tags, and packaging, received $35,838 in job training funds from ETP in September 2007 to train all 26 of their employees in various business and continuous improvement skills. The company was convinced that In order to achieve the best possible training results, all workers must attend the training sessions as a group. In order to meet their training goals, Label Impressions chose to shut down production for 2 days – a wise, but risky decision for a small company facing fierce competition.

Company management has no regret with this bold training technique. Immediately following the training, groups of employees met on their own time to brainstorm and returned to work with ideas and suggestions to streamline their work areas and production processes – which they, in most cases, accomplished on their own.

"ETP training funds have definitely allowed us to begin our shift to 'lean'," said Jeff Salisbury, President of Label Impressions, Inc. "However, more importantly, we have a reenergized team of employees that feel our experience with ETP has positively impacted not only their work environment, but their personal lives as well."
